Just changed fluid in both differentals. Used amsoil but I think I might have over filled the front . Can over filling cause any damage or problems?

How did you overfill it? I always fill both front and back to the bottom of the fill hole, once it starts it starts coming out I put the plug in.

front and rear diff

I was told to stick your finger in and bend it forward if the fluid hits the end of your finger it is full. I filled this one to the hole.

This will work as well, I filled mine up to 1/4 inch below the fill hole. Guys that filled till the fluid ran out supposedly had foaming problems since dodge messed up and placed the fill hole too high on the cover.

I have always filled both until it runs out the fill hole. No trouble. 64k miles. Spec says 1/4" from bottom of fill hole +/- 1/4 inch. That means "to the fill hole" is a legitimate level.

the only one that calls for the finger approach is the rear, it's fillplug is too high, but on the front your just fine.

Never heard of the fill hole being too high on the differentials. I have heard of the fill hole being too low on the early G56 trans but that's a different story. Which year models are effected by the fill hole on the differentials?

Ditto on up to the fill hole. Shop manual says 1/4 inch below the hole +or- 1/4 inch. I do the same front and back. 1/4 inch difference is not a big deal.

Never heard of fill hole being too high either. Sounds like an urban legend to me.

fill plug

The "too high" fill plug is addressed in a TSB for 2004 trucks. Not sure what other years are affected. If I read the TSB correctly, only trucks with the 10" rear end are affected. As far as I know, this rear end isn't available with the diesel. Hope this helps.

The 10. 5" AAM axle was only installed on 2003 & 2004 standard output trucks (235HP & 250HP) with automatic trannys.

I believe this was the axle in question where the TSB fill level was 3/4" below the hole +/- 1/4". That being said I filled my 10. 5" up to the hole before I knew about this TSB, and I still haven't drained any out with no ill effects noted.

From what I read... some of the G56s were assembled without assembly lube which meant you had dry bearings... the TSB called for overfilling the transmission (only once) to ensure all the bearings had lubrication... once it was done initially, there was no need to overfill it again... although it couldn't hurt.

And the plug hole TSB for the rear was indeed for the 10. 5" which was used in some of the early 3rd gens...
