Hi 1999 regular cab 2500 bought new 119,000 miles- haul a 2500 lbs slide-in with Firestone airbags/Rancho 5 position shocks 3,000 miles in summer. The rest is just normal driving. Still on original sealed ( no grease zerks) u -joints. 62 yrs old grew up with grease zerks. Have I been lucky? Should I take it in and have u joints with zerks install and what kind are the best?

I did mine on my 05 at 130,000 and they were still in good shape. By that I mean there was no vibration in the drive train and when I pulled them, they still had good grease. None were dry.

With that said, on a 99, I would consider doing it for piece of mind.

I used Precision Ujoints last time. They have the zerks.

My '98's still on the original driveshaft ujoints at 275k miles.

If you take a driveshaft off for some other reason, you might change its ujoints. Otherwise, if the ujoints look good, don't mess wit' 'em. Front axle ujoints are a different story; they need frequent replacement.
