Getting a new axle is definetly more exspensive. I good garage should be able to do it fairly easily. You can do it yourself if you are mechnically inclined its not very difficult. Just make sure to read up on it. There are a few special tools needed that will run some money so if you can get those you can do it. Just pay attention to the details and everything will go good.
