Archived Front Axle Seals, put axle in dry or oiled?

I'm in the middle of doing my front axle seals and it occured to me that I don't know whether to prelube the axle shafts before sliding in the seals or if they are supposed to be a dry fit like the front crank seal. (FWIW I plan on using some rtv on the outside of the seals). Any ideas on what to do with the inside?

I lubed mine. Worked fine. I think the crank seal has to be dry because it is made of teflon.

I put a film of grease on the axel splines, didn't want to cut a seal. No leaks
