Competition Timing chart for Piers pump.

Back in the mid 70's they use to make front axles trusses that didn't reguire welding, had a "U" bolt on each end that went in the knuckle and a metal plate under the pumpkin. Hickey made a nice one. I have searched many sites and it appears that no one still makes them. Has anyone seen them in today's market? Probably wouldn't take the rock crawling abuse, but would help the front handle the weight of the diesel.

I'm not sure if it would be enough. I suppose if you had a great big disclaimer like light cigs that says your axle may still die just as fast from using this axle truss or inhaling it.

I sell one but will not have any ready for several weeks. We have several project turcks that get them first. Loren

How about some pics,I have heard yours are different than Gregs or Jasons.

(question is for original poster, as I'm sure LWorthington is doing it right :) )
If this is a weld-on truss, and it's welded to the centersection as well, make sure that you're taking the right procedures to weld to the cast so as to get proper penetration. you have to heat the casting to around 400 degrees to properly weld to it, otherwise the weld will be weak and could easily break

They are not strong enough... ... . I broke those on my little 1/2 ton many years ago. The american 9. 25 has way too many brackets to be able to use that type of truss.

Avi I got a call this afternoon after you left the dyno,DesertFab Mikey has inspected a 9. 25 and has some ideas on how he will truss one. A rough estimate was also given I beleive.

I talked to the owner, went by the shop on Tues, he has an opening in a couple of weekes, and is going to give it a try, I will post more when it happens

I just finished trussing one in my shop and it is by far the nicest one to date. I refined mine a lot and made all new templates. It is made with 1. 5" . 120 wall chromoly tubing and steel plate. It is a very painstaking process to fit, weld, and keep straight. Unfortunately,I don't think a weld-on kit for an "in the truck installation" is possible due to many circumstances, of fabrication and welding processes, to have a good finished product. I will try to post some pics so you all can have some ideas on how mine is done. All I can suggest is that anyone doing these better be real good at knowing welding rod compatability and the welding process. I hope this was helpful.

Jason,

That's good to hear(by far the nicest one to date). I will be putting it to the test this weekend in the dunes. :D

Sorry for the delay in getting back, my computer has been crashed for a bit.

Our trusses are not a one peace weld in deal. They are several pieces and the key is how they are welded in on the axle. We bent three axles before we got it right. The key is how you weld it on. We found that you need to bake/heat the center to around 350-400 degrees before ni welding the pumkin to the truss. The pumkin is made of crappy cast iron and is hard to get good penetration and bond to the 4130 or dom.

As for the project trucks, they are customers trucks, some for race and others for pre-run. But we put our suspension customers first and foremost.

thanks Loren

Bob,

Post some pics of your axle truss :) You already have one mounted to your truck and is welded to the whole length of your axel housing. :D

Where did you get yours and who mounted it for you

POST SOME PICS

David :D
