my front axle u joint has something like a steel cap pressed into the outside hole. i have no clue how to get the u joint out with it in place. it has a small lip but i cant get anything to wedge under it . is there another way to get the u joint out?

that is the way a normal (to me)cv would look like. the retainer clips are on the inside. but the outside of the caps look much bigger than the inside. if thats the case the caps would have to be pressed out from the inside would'nt they?

it appears to look like this.

Caps are pressed IN from the outside. After you take the clips off, put the axle in a vise and beat on the yoke and vice/ versa.

I did this wed night.

Take a screw driver and hammer and pop the C clip out on the inner side of the yoke on the U-joint. Then press the joint out normaly. It takes a socket BIGGER than 1 1/4". That was the biggest I had (next to the 1 11/16 for the axle shaft), so I used a sledge hammer n the yoke to drive it out.
