How involved is it to change front axle u-joints? I was changing oil the other day and noticed that the seals on the left side looked "angry". I already bought the Precission 464's and was wondering if this was DIY project.

If you have never changed u-joints before I would not recommend it. The axle joints are the most difficult. You don't have a signature so I don't know what vehicle you have. There are 2 different style hub and bearing styles, which require different procedures.

If you have a friend that can help you complete the job in the event of problems go for it, if not pay to have it done.

Didn't intend to be negative but tools and knowledge are essential.

Tim,

I have a 2004. 5 1ton. I'm not sure what you mean that there is two different styles. I have changed u-joints before, both on my driveshaft, and on misc. pieces of farm equipment, some of them are very big.

they may be covered under waranty. I just had mine done on my 03. they were cover an the 7/70 powertrain.

Mine is a 2004. 5, I thought that I had 3/36, or was that bumper-to-bumper. Anyway I have 80,000 miles on it now, thanks though.
