Hello to all!

Just found out from my brother that his front ball Joints in his truck are shot. See Sig. for truck. The truck has less than 35-thousand miles on it and he has just ruined the fifth set of tires. The dealer has told him it will cost him 1100 dollars to fix it. First question is. Is this normal? Should he let the dealer fix it, or should he find someone else to do the job? If so, are their any afternarket parts that are better quality than the factory parts? His is the third truck I know personally with this problem. Thank you in advance for any help you can give on this matter!!

Find yourself a reputable front end shop (or mechanic) and have them replace the ball joints. I would use Moog parts if possible.

HTH,

George

I have had to replace all of my ball joints at 45k mikes. I used Moog parts because they have zirk grease fittings. I had to replace the track bar too. I picked the DT Track bar:D The truck handles great now. Dan

Hello to all!!

Thanks for all of the fast responses, you guys are great!!! Can someone please send me the phone numbers for both Moog, and Stempf and Ingall? We have a good front alignment shop who he will use. Is their anything else he may want to look into? Track bar? anything else of the such? Could've this been caused by him hauling tractors on a goose neck trailer?

Thanks again!!

Might want to replace the u-joints with greaseable ones while you are in there. Auto Zone has Mcquay-Norris ball joints. they are greaseable and life time warranty. I used them on my 95 any they are a quality piece. Jeff

I had to replace the balljoints on mine at 32K also. You are also going to need the drivers side stub axle, there is about a 95% chance that the axle nut threads will be destroyed getting the nut off. While it is out you might as well put a u-joint in it, and a set of axle seals. I bought the extended warranty a couple days before taking it in:D , cost me nothing or paid for the warranty depending on how you look at it.
