Had time this weekend to take a ATF3 bath, removed the pan on my auto transmission. Have added a drain plug for next time. I was able to adjust the rear band only to find out the tools I have on hand to adjust the front would not fit. Looking for suggestions on tools to fit this hard to reach asjustment.

Thanks

brian , the easy way to do the front band is to loosen the jam nut , i think the screw is a #30 torx , put a 1/4 " allen wrench between the piston and the lever and snug the adjuster down , tighten the jam nut while holding the adjuster and your done . recheck to make sure the allen go in , and is not loose feeling .

Brian, I have done the adjustments several times with just a torquewrench, a torx socket, a torx L-key, and a box wrench for the jam nut. It is a pain to get in there but it can be done. I am curious to know also if there is a special tool or better technique to do it easier.

I am not clear on where you placed the 1/4 allen wrench. I was going to use the proccedure in the service manual setting the torque with a torque wrench and some type of an adapter.
Apperciate another way of making this adjustment, would like more input.
Thanks Brian

Brian,

The way Mopar-muscle is suggesting is with the pan OFF. If the pan is on then do it like the book says. If the pan is off then the piston and lever he is talking about are those that engage the band oposite the side with the adjustment screw and front band anchor. If you are changing the ATF this is the way to do it.
