I started hearing and feeling strange sounds from the front brakes again, so I pulled the front wheels tonight.

Inside pads almost down to the metal, outside pads like new.

In sept of 2010 (9 months ago, 8000 miles),I had the rotors turned, put on new hoses, calipers and pads because the same thing had happened after only 5 months of new pads.

What could be wrong. It feels like the pins are tight so I will pull them and grease them, but there only 9 months old. Should they have gotten that sticky that fast?

I had that on a previous truck although I got a lot more than 8,000 miles out of them. Something is binding. Either the caliper on the slides or the pads on caliper mounting bracket.

oX2 on calipers or pins. Good luck finding a good rebuild caliper. EGRs are the only thing close, but they are overpriced for what you get. I have heard of bad proportioning valves causing thoughs symtoms. Good luck.

I had a similar issue on a '94 Jetta. Service manager recommended greasing the slides every 5,000 miles. I followed his advice and saved some money on brake replacements (after the first time!).

I was searching here for some advice on who has good calipers... .

I've gathered all the parts for a full 4-wheel brake replacement, but I hadn't decided what to do with the calipers. I've worn out the passenger inner pad much facter than the rest, though the drivers inner isn't much better. Aslo, the correct 8800GVW pads won't fit - they're too thick and the clips con't fit in the caliper pistons. The truck has had 2 previous owners in the 175K mi before I got it, and I've decided it got the wrong calipers installed sometime along the way.

So I was reading Hot Rod magazine the other day, and they were fixing the brake problems on a Dodge Dart. Back in the 70s, Dodge calipers mounted to the front of the rotor on some models, and the rear of the rotor on others. Calipers that looked the same had different piston diameters on different car models. Hot Rod said A1-Cardone is the only company that mostly has their stuff right for Dodges. So I figure it's worth a shot to get my calipers from them. They're on the way... .

$240 for a pair of EGR calipers is still a little cheaper than buying new from Dodge. I'll think about that if the A1s don't cut it.

Sounds like a caliper problem, where the pistons on the outside are binding or not applying equal force as the inside pistons. Maybe try calling Raybestos to see if they offer replacement calipers or at least pistons; they are quickly expanding their coverage & product lines, especially for the new anti-copper regulations coming in California & possibly other states bordering an ocean.

94-99 trucks don't have the same calipers you do. Their calipers only have one piston on the inside. I upgraded my calipers to Ford dual piston calipers when I replaced my spindle and hubs. You are fortunate to have 2000-2002 calipers. You can even uograde to 2010 rotors and calipers.

I have no idea what you mean. My '02 has 2 pistons on the outside [front] and a backing plate on the inside. The rear has a single piston on the outside.
