Front Brake Squeal

The front brakes on my 2000 2500 are squealing like crazy when i am driving along and then it stops when i apply the brakes. The dealer saie they have been calls about this and contacted DC but do not know what they are going to do about the problem. Any way if anybody has any suggestions about this please feel free to share them.

Junior,

Pull the pads, sand the surface of the pads lightly with 80 grit sandpaper, buy some anti-squeal compound from your favorite auto parts store and apply it to the back side of the pads. This should take care of your squeal wiht NO dealer aggravation. #ad


Note: mark the pads so they go back in exactly the same location you removed them from.

If the pads are worn enough to replace them, just use the anti-squeal compound on the new pads and break them in carefully. (No sudden stops for the first 50 miles or so) The reason for the squeal is glazing of the pad's surface.

The front pads on my 99 have squeekers on them. When it's time to change them they do just what you described (squeek all the time but go quiet when you step on the brake). Have you pulled the tires and checked your pads? Be sure to check both inboard and outboard on both sides of the truck (i. e. all 4 pads).

I don't mean to sound patronizing, you'd be surprise how fast some of these pads wear out.

Thanks guys for the input will try that Mick2500 and i did check the pads and there is plenty of meat on them
