I'm gong to do a front brake job on my 92 about the middle of next month. The front rotors are getting to be toast and some of the brake stuff is getting to old to be reliable. I need peace of mind, so I plan on buying new rotors, calipers, seals, pads, front brake lines, replacing brake fluid and possibly bearings if they are questionable.

Any suggestions on the brand of the above items. I need to get this stuff together in the very near future. I live in Tempe, AZ and have access to most of national part houses and will order via Internet if needed as long as I have a good part number.

Also, are there any suggestions, do's and don't's and etc. I do have the manual and will have help from a friend that was mechanic for 30 years but din't work on many Dodges. I only want to do this job once. I want to get the best parts for the job and will not sacrifice quality for $$$$.

Thanks in advance, any suggestions will be appreciated.

I always try to stay with name brand rotors and avoid the import stuff - Raybestos and Wagner seem to be about the best. Ditto for the brake lines.

Whatever you do, DON'T use the Albany pads from Auto Zone. I had them in my F150, my dad used them in his Grand Marquis, and a friend installed them on his Z71 - they stopped fine but all of them felt like the brakes were metal-to-metal. Swapping pads for better quality stuff (from NAPA, CarQuest, etc) eliminated the problem in each case. Trying to track it down was a real PITA. I'm using Performance Friction pads on my Jeep and like them, but have heard mixed things about using them in the trucks.

This seems to be a good website to get part numbers from - I've never ordered from them so I can't comment on their service:

I have tried many different brands of pads on my truck , the cheap ones and the high price ones . The ones I have found that work the best for me are Napa True-test in the green and white box . I don't buy much from NAPA either because the store is in the next town away and there is a better independent parts store closer to home . Oh and don't waste your money on cheap rotors. Get the Raybestos rotors made in AMERICA . They are not cheap but they are much better , been there ~ done that !!!!!!!!!!

I replaced darn near everything on mine 2 years ago except front rotors and the anti-lock valve. I used all Wagner parts. The master cyl came from NAPA , the rest including rear drums, from other parts stores. But they were all Wagner.

Everything has held up well so far.

I agree that you should not use 'offbrand' parts.

Last spring, I put in new rotors and pads. There was a big range in rotor prices. I went with NAPA (Tru-Stop?) rotors made in Canada, as opposed to their cheap "off shore" rotors. For pads, I went with Performance Friction. I like the difference they made in stopping confidence, especially when towing. I'd also get the brake parts kit that includes the new flat spring that keeps the caliper from rattling. I didn't, and now I have rattles that I think are coming from loose calipers.
