Getting ready to do front breaks. Should I get the pads from Dodge? I don't want to change the breaking ability of the truck by putting un-proven pads on. Does anyone have suggestions as to what pad might be best?

Thanks

Troy,
Go with the Carbo-Mets,Sam sells them and they are GREAT. Good stopping power with no noise. Thanks Sam

I've been wanting to try the pads advertized in J C Whitney. Great claims to fame. What I DO WANT is a pad that is at least as soft as the OE pad. I'm not interested in longer life at the expense of rotor longevity.

What is SAM's. I live in Southern California. Why are the stock pads so bad? They have worked great for allmost 30,000 miles.

I've got 40,000 plus miles on mine, and when we rotated tires a month ago, they were fine. How many miles do you expect to get out of a set of pads? If I get 50 or 60,000 out of Dodge pads, how many might I get out of "good" pads?

Rotated tires last week and checked brakes. 40% wear on front and 30% on rear shoes. Just turned 30k miles. BFG A/T 35% wear in 20k mi, 15k mi towing, did not tow the first 10k mi.

Guys--Everyones driving habits are a little different. Some get good mileage and braking on the dealer pads and some hate them. What I have experienced is that carbo met pads do a better job than the origionals in that they usually don't wear the rotor face due to the carbon lubricity of the pad. They last longer with no noise and I think that you will find quite a price difference & better brake ability is also noticible. ---Sam

Where can I get the CARBOMET pads. I am ready to do my breakes.

One thing I do NOT like about dealer pads is the excessive brake dust. Granted, I have an automatic transmission - but I'm generally very light on the brakes, and do very little towing. My wheels are completely brown from brake dust in just 1500-2000 miles.

Do these aftermarket pads have comparable, or less amounts of brake dust?

Greg

I just installed some Titanium pads on the front. They stop alot better than the oe pads. The oe pads would have lasted another 10K but as I had just hit 100K on the truck I desided it was time to replace them.

I think I'll just remove the 'Titanium' faces off my golf clubs and use them for my front brake pads, and save some money, since I can't seem to get below '100' on any stinking golf course with these over-rated clubs! #ad

Hey I would like to see 100. That sure beats 112. I used to play with a guy that bought a new set of clubs every time he had a bad day. He just didn't know about operator error.
