Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Hazing Issue

The guy I bought my truck from hit some ice and slide into a ISO container (40ft containers used on barges).

So the right corner of the bumper is pushed in some. I was thinking of maybe putting a new bumper on, perhaps one with the fog lights in it. The thing is that the bumpers are around $200.

Does it make sense to put a stock bumper? Anything aftermarket a resonable price, like $400-500 max?

Or anyone have a stock bumper for me?

I'm looking into this also , but the 3/4 trucks ft. is close to max from what I read , 300lbs let to add , so far it seems that after market bumpers [ about 150 lbs ] and a winch [ about 150 lbs ] now we are driving around a little over all the time , [ not good ] and the cost seems higher , or your figure is where it starts , then theres an aluminun but they start at about $ 1,500 .
Trying to have my cake & eat it too .

I'd suggest posting a WANTED ad in the TDR Classifieds. Maybe someone who installed an aftermarket bumper will have one for sale (I'm keeping mine to reinstall when I sell the truck).

Or shop ebay. Sometimes you'll see long parts lists of dismantled wrecked rigs. I certain bumpers have been there too.

I was fortunate to pick up my DOR from a good friend and TDR guy. Finding a used High end bumper is going to be tough unless you run into something like Ol'T Dog said - someone moving to a different body style and needing to unload the bumper. Having said that, I think the DOR I have is the ticket. Good luck,

J

DOR= Denver Off-Road

IIRC, they don't have site. You will have to do a search here, on the number, unless someone else that knows what it is, chimes in.

I have a Lonestar bumper. Overall, a really nice bumper, but the finish is already flaking off, and starting to rust. NOT happy. Installed in November, and the truck was parked most of January.

Here's my Denver Off Road:

I love it. It was first on the original Earthroamer, then Wyosteve and now me. I've had it at least 3-4 years and it is probably twice as old. Only thing I notice is the powder coating has a slight oxidation/white film. Not sure how to buff that out or if it just needs recoated?

That's a decent bumper. I'm looking for something that doesn't stick out more than the stock one though. I'm not a fan of those huge 300lb ranch hand bumpers for sure!

If you know someone at a local welding shop, or someone that has access to a welder and a sheet metal shear... . I can give you measurments of mine, maybe they could make one for you... .

That's nice! Would take me some time to build it though. I have a welder and some other metal fab tools. Nothing fancy like a shear though.

Why did you put that gap in the middle??

When I was at Layne's a couple of weeks ago he was on the phone to his powder coaters. From the conversation I gather you may be able to have the bumper reheated in the oven which will cause the powder coat to reflow, especially if you have the matte style finish.

Thanks, I really like it!

Now, for the gap... . well I sorta had the friend use some of the dimensions of another bumper, but they are designed to go with sport and none sport (99-02) trucks... . but usuallu thereis a plate welded in that would fill the gap behind the sport grill... well its not on mine. No biggy, I want to find an OEM sport grill and have it chromed, but its $$$$

Alphacowboy... who made that, and how much would it be...

I'd love one like that for mine, but with the outside edges matching the fender body better, and without the shackles or laser etching. Probably only 2 lights not 4.

Have you had any issues with cooling since the bottom factory holes are not cut into that bumper.

I basically want a heavy duty bumper that has the look of yours, but is also as stock appearing as possible. Only real thing I would want is the light buckets for some driving lights.

Unfortunately, this bumper is a one of a kind built buy a friend. He is no longer in high school (yeah, a HS kid built that!) and he no longer has access to the tools to build another. If you can find a friend that works in a shop, just have him build one for you, and use the dimensions above as a template, and adjust as you go. Click on the image to make it bigger if you cant read the numbers.

The guy I got all my Sport stuff had 2 chromed 99-up sport grills... . I can find out where he gets them if you want...

I LOVE you bumper alphacowboy.

I went the elcheapo route with my truck, got my bumper off of ebay for $258. The cheapest stock bumper I could locate complete with upper and lower covers. Nothing great as far as quality goes, but acceptable by my standards.
