Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Front Crankshaft Oil Seal

Well, I've searched the forums and looked in the Cummins and Dodge FSMs and can't find out how far to press the seal into the cover. I have the cover off and what I'm guessing is the original seal was pressed about 1/8" below the back surface of the cover. The Cummins FSM shows the seal being pressed from the back side of the cover. It says to press it in until the service tool bottoms against the front cover. Since I don't have a service tool, that's not much help.



You guys that have done this before, what is the magic number?

The service tool you speak of: should have been included with the new seal. You can set the seal to any depth you like as long as the seal is riding on a fresh surface of the crank. The Cummins speedi-sleeve kit w/crank seal did not have the depth tool.

No it does not... ... ... . it is a seal driver with a miller #
