The front CV joint on a CTD 4X4 is a spicer setup. Mine was badly phuct. I took my drive shaft to 2 driveline shops here in town, both wanted to put in a Saginaw unit to save $$$. The Saginaw units are used in Chevs, Fords, and Dodges without the Cummins. Has anyone else swapped out their stock CV for the Saginaw?

I left my drive shaft with them and they put in the Saginaw unit (which is fully greaseable). The Saginaw must be weaker than the stock spicer piece. The shop foreman told me they had no Spicer units but there was a rebuilt unit on the counter, when I asked the sales guy about it he said "That's way more money... ", I said that's what my truck had. He doubted it until the shop foreman came up... I'm pretty sure I got ripped off here.

I'm thinking my truck must have somewhere around 450ft-lbs (and I told them this) so I'm going to put my 33's on and try to bust this thing. If it breaks, they can fix it right, on their dime.

My '91 W-250 Cummins had a Saginaw joint in the front driveline. I believe all of the first generation Dodge 4X4's with the Cummins did. If yours had the Spicer CV joint, it was probably installed later to replace the OEM Saginaw joint.
