My Cousin needs HELP!

I hope that I am not out of line asking for help for my cousin with a 2000 Ford Explorer XL from the guys that have helped me so much. I HAVE DODGES and I don't care for the Fords myself. ANYWAY... ...

My cousin has metal filings in her front diff and doesn't know where to take it to be repaired. She lives in Auburn, California and would like to find a reliable repair facility in her area that won't take advantage of her as a single woman with no man to help her.

You can post or PM me at "har_ros@bigvalley.net"

Thanks guys.

In a liberal state like CA, do you honestly think women are at risk for this anymore? Too many feminists groups ready to attack anything with testosterone and a torque wrench .

I would recommend she take it to a shop that specializes in axle work, or driveline/suspension. Not sure if you have any 4x4 shops in the area, but they area usually good about dealing with these types of repairs compared to regular tuneup shops etc. The ones I know nearby Auburn would be 4 wheel parts wholesalers in either San Jose or Sacto, long ago I used to work for them, despite their creepy salemen, their mechanics that handle ring and pinion and alignments are usually wel qualified for the task. A pretty smile may get her some sympathy, not to mention waiting until the month is almost over, they work on commision and if they're under quota or not fully booked up in appointments, they'll work with you to reach budget. (shhh, don't tell anybody).

Personally, I would take the explorer out back of the barn and shoot it, its easier on the wallet than fixing it. If the gears are damaged, expect close to $600 or higher to r/r them. Labor is around $300 or more for most front axle gear jobs, parts are well over $300. 00 for gears and bearings. That doesn't count seals or shafts if their damaged too. :(
