Okay I have to admit this is kind of embarassing. :( Yes I know there are no dumb questions just those you don't ask!!! How do you tell the front disk pads are worn before they start to damage the rotors? Pull the caliper off and look? I am familiar with the pad with detectors that rub and squeel when they touch the rotor but our trucks don't have these at least on the OEM pads. To tell a tail on my wifes car I put on some Bendix pads and did not notice the wear detectors was not right and they never touched until after the rotors had gotton scored. I guess having none is better than false security

No need to pull the caliper, just the wheel. Look with a light and it's easy to see how much pad is left. My front pads have the wear "squeakers" on them. Are you sure yours don't?

Bob, that has got to be the stupidest question I've ever seen posted on this forum! Matter of fact, I don't know if your even qualified to drive a Cummins powered truck! You need to drop off your dually at my house in the AM after you get your skirt on.

:D :D :D :D

As I remember, these are glued, not rivited OEM pads. I just did a quick tour of chapter 5 of the '99 shop manual, and I didn't see any specs on thickness. Uh, I'd say somewhere between 1/16" and an 1/8" would be time. They're cheap and easy to do.

FWIW, I put in Performance Friction pads from Autozone about two years ago. I'm on my second set, and I'm easy on 'um. Autozone provided the second set for free. ;) They do work better than OEM.

PS, we need to put together another get-together soon.

:D OILBRNR ~ Your right it was a dumb question. Yea I did look through my 2001 service manual same thing no spec's. If they are bonded then 1/8 to 1/4 inch be a good mark and conservative as I am probably do at 1/4. Yep we do need to get a meet going again. :p

Dieselnerd ~ Don't rembmer seeing tghe sqeekers but you know how it goes with age eyes are the first to go. I will look next time I have the front wheels off to rotate.

Hi ho it is off to work I go thanks for the help.

Hey Bob,

Could you do me a favor and tell Brian Colorangelo (phoenix suns owner)... how mentally deprived he is, for trading Jason Kidd. Sorry, I know it the wrong post. I just had to tell someone. Living in Denver I cant vent to anyone.

Make sure

I waited too long after the 'squeeling' front disc's started.

Ended up replacing not only my pads, but also my rotor and my caliper. Fortunate for me, our company picked up the cost.

So, in other words, as soon as your front brakes make a noise,

CHANGE YOUR PADS!
