been searching an did not find it so here it goes:

-------do i really need the double carden joint in the front shaft? or can i go back to a single u-joint?:confused:

after the double carden wears out due to lack of grease since i, who is mechanically able, can not for the life of me get any grease what so ever in it since i have owned the truck. but has gotten gease over said self, truck, under truck, frame, etc... ... . many times with beer and with out. started sober once and went through a bottle of rum to calm my nerves. and yes i have bought from 1 1/2" fitting to the 4" one, elbows and what not. except for the vehicle lift the wife raised hell on that one,:-{} she likes to park in the garage with her car. so tuesday i am spending $40 to see a mechanic do it to find what it is. and what the hell i am doing wrong. #@$%!#@$%!#@$%!

its there... I could not find it either,. so my father in law who has been a diesel mechanic for 100yrs or more did it for me..... lol

I carried mine to 3 different Dodge dealers before I found someone that could show me how to do it. It is a serious pain to get grease in, for sure. I jack up the front left wheel as high as I can get it with my jack, use a 4" long injection tip with a 90deg fitting on it. I put it into position and apply pressure using a pry bar against the cross-member.

yea thanks, i know where it is but trying to get grease in there is a pita. so the question remains do we really need the double carden joint, my '97 high milage beat to **** hunting truck ferd has a single in the front and it seems to have survived except for replacement of the joint itself.

I think you do need that type of joint and for less than another bottle of rum you can pay someone to grease it for you. My old full size Bronco has the same type of grease fitting. They are a pain but it is not just a Dodge thing. Be aware of what can happen if you lose a front prop shaft while traveling at highway speed.

If you plan to keep this truck for any length of time, an investment in one of the free-spin kits will virtually eliminate wear on your front DS, and it has other benefits to boot.

yep thanks people, did want to do the free spin two yrs ago, did not have the money so next time, right now saving for ball joints for the spring. took it to the dealer and yep i was advised that there was not zerc fitting, so i said yes there is and i will so you, so after a few minutes on the computer, there is a special fitting, not too long and not to short. and yes they did not have one. so i guess i will give it another shot.

thanks again for the replies... . will up date

You need a Plews 05-037 Grease Gun Injector Needle. $2. 24 at Amazon. Or if you want to go first class, Plews 05-025 4" version for $11. 43. If you missed wcjp's post above, you're probably legally blind.
