Does anyone know the part # for the precision u-joints and centering kit for the front driveshaft of an 04. 5 2500 whith a 6 speed? I went to NAPA, but there was some confusion. They listed different # for 6 speed and auto in 05 but not 04. Also, the # were different for the 04. Thanks

Sorry... I thought I had 'cut and pasted' the whole section:

Rear driveshaft 2 Piece precision (takes 3) Precision #351

Front driveshaft Cardan H joint (takes 2) Precision #232

Front driveshaft @ front axle (takes 1) Precision #235

Front Axle U joints LEFT AND RIGHT (takes 2) #464

What happened to your front driveshaft? I've mentioned it here many times that the shafts are not worth rebuilding. I had mine done once at a cost of $125, which I thought was OK. A year later the cardan blowed up and I just replaced the whole thing for $245. New shaft from DC has the little grease fitting for the cardan.

For the relatively low additional cost of a complete shaft, IMO it's a waste of time and money chasing after just the joints.

Do you have the part number for the whole shaft, cattletrkr? I think this is a good idea also. Plus you can keep the old shaft, throw in some precision u-joints and have a spare incase something freaky happened like cattletrkr.

Thanks for the info. My parts guy came up with a best guess of 331A for a # based on a 2005 listing for the Cardin joint. I have rebuilt quite a few with good results, witch is why I will spend $100 for 3 joints and a centering kit rather than $250 for a shaft.

OK... this thread has added a 'front drive shaft' replacement to my 100K maintenance list (no issues so far, but I didn't install the Dynatrac hubs until 86K). Googled the Mopar Pt. # 52105932AF and found Neapco N921050-2003as an OEM replacemnt. Looks good on the Neapco site, but questions:

Anyone ever heard of Neapco? Any good? Greasable Cardon? Any discount retailers?

TIA

NeapCo are one of the best joints money can buy... I place them right up there with Spicer.

I have greaseable NeapCos in the rear drive shaft on my truck... but they needed to be custom fit at the time I had them installed (the retainers were ground thin to make them work). The shop I had rebuild the drive shaft refused to use precisions because they were not always "tight", even when new and sometimes cause vibrations. I have around 80k on the NeapCo joints... they are just like new.

With that said, I have Precisions in my axle joints, but they see very little use because of the Dynatrac kit... I have not replaced the front drive shaft joints because I replaced the entire drive shaft (under warranty) trying to cure my 70mph vibes... I doubt I have more than 10k of actual use on either the front shaft joints or axle joints because of the Dynatrac kit.

Neapco Discount Dealer?

Anyone know of a Neapco discount dealer? I found a truck drivetrain shop in Stockton that will order the Neapco N921050-2003 (OEM replacement for Dodge front driveshaft) for $320 plus shipping. I'd like to try one, but would prefer it if the price was closer to a stock shaft.

I did contact the usual good sources, no joy. Suggestions?
