I am interested in installing a leveling kit for my 96 4x4 CTD.

I was looking at the Jackit kits, are the towers all that is needed?

Is it an easy install? How many of you have done the towers, either poly or steel? Will my front shocks work, they are Monroe shocks? Any and all help is a good thing;) ;) ;)

I just put poly 2 1/2 inch spacers in the front of mine. (sorry, can't remember the brand name, but it's nobody special - they're just spacers) It's not a terrible job, but while you're already in there, you might as well do the shocks. Read all the threads - what everyone says about the Rancho 9000s is true. Very worthwhile.

Now that search is working you can find lots of info (and opinions ;) ).

I thought it was easy and safe to remove the lower control arm bolt to allow the axle to drop enough to install the spacers. No nasty spring compressors required. When you are done, loosen each of the control arm bolts, one by one if you don't want to disturb the caster setting. Then jounce the suspension to allow the bushings to return to their relaxed position and retighten the bolts. Can make a big difference in ride quality. My experience with steel spacers was that the stock shocks were far too short for a 3" lift - *may* have worked for 2". Total install time 3-4 hours including beer.
