Well a few of you know I have been trying to find the noise in my front axle, It was an intermittent growl, sounded like a wheel bearing,, but was more than that, after checking the wheel bearings, hubs, so I went ahead and repacked the wheel bearings, cleaned the lockout's resealed everything back up and took it down the road thought I had fixed it and it was back, Next I removed the front diff cover expecting to find a hand full of metal in the diff and found clean oil, NO METAL SHAVINGS AT ALL. So tonight I had the extra time to tear it down some more and removed the front axle shafts and found the problem, pass. side wheel joint was LOCKED UP. So I know I will have something to do at work tomorrow, replacing my U-Joint.

Since you have it apart, it would be a good idea to do both axle joints. While you're there, take off the knuckles and clean/inspect/repack the kingpin bearings. All of your front end weight sits on these bearings and they've most likely never been looked at.

Travis,

One step ahead of you, bearing were in good shape. The driver side joint is fine, and if It needs replaced later no big deal the front end is easy to tear down when you have the right tools, had both axles out in under 45 mins
