Time to throw some more $$ at the front end#@$%!. Anybody with some recomendation as where to get ball joints and steering rod?? joints ?? Found Quad4x4 balljoints and they seen to have a good reputation here on the forum, but how about the steering joints, anyplace besides the dealer??, do they make these greasable?? Also, would balljoints on a 02 be a doable project for a DIY type guy with a good selection of tools?? Was quoted $170 a side for labor. for that I can buy a good press and have $ leftover

Thanks
Pete

Best thing you can do is get the DSS Stabilizer and 3rd. gen track bar, just had both put on and it is night and day, well worth the money. Didn't do the ball joints so not sure about those.

Nevermind, just read your sig, sorry, too manyu red bulls this morning.

yep, nothing like a good caffine buzz

just starting to show some movement in the balljoints, and a couple of the steering joints are moving a little, might as well do all at once.
tracks straight and steers pretty good, just a little dead spot in the neutral position.

Doing ball joints now on my '01. Hasn't been too bad so far. I'm just a DIY shadtree mechanic, with a few tools. $170 per side isn't too bad. But after payin for new ball joints, track bar, tie rods, etc... . I didn't want to spend any more to have someone else do it. I rented a ball joint press at Parts America, pay for it up front ($170) then get my money back when I return it.

Best tip I found on here was the one to use the power steering to press out the hubs. After you get the hub to housing bolts out, you screw them back in a lil bit and use a socket and extension (or bolt as I did) against the housing to press them out with the steering wheel. Took a few times, and someone else running the wheel, but was easier than beating on them for hours with heat and a hammer!

Then for the joints, I bent my harbor frieght POS press, the one I rented is better. I cranked on it with a ratchet and pipe till it was tight, then rap on the bolt with a hammer, crank, rap on it, etc... Eventually they broke loose. They pop BIG when they first came loose. That and I've used 2 cans of PB blaster to break the rust loose so far!

Oh and my ball joints are from NAPA, greasable on top. I THINK they are MOOG, and not sure how much I paid for them. I think it was $240 for all. But that was a while back before I got up the ambition to do it.....

Moog joints are the way to go. The greaseable ones are def. worth the extra money. I found all the parts I needed on summitracing, and then went to amazon.com and searched the part numbers and was able to save almost $100 for all my front end parts together. I would have never thought of it unless I did a google search for the part numbers.
