Front end play

I was rotating my tires yesterday and noticed a little play, I wouldn't even call it play. When I push on the top (when looking at the truck from the side)of the front tires I can feel an ever so slight little "tick". Feels the same on both sides. I don't however feel any of this when I push on the bottom or either side of the tires.

Is this normal? If not, what parts are worn that are causing this? Thanks in advance for the help!

upper ball joints (or king pins are basicly what they are) or

could be a bit of slack in the hub assembly

If you haven't changed the upper ball joints, they are probably shot.

Are upper ball joints the ones where I'd have to take the whole hub apart that is usually rusted together and everyone has problems getting them apart?

not sure on the 2wd setup on the 4x4 you need a ball joint press for the ball joints and the hub assembly (bearing) is usually rusted in

I had some play also two weeks ago and it wound up being my tie rods. The mech. showed me the play while it was in the air. Worth looking at anyway.

How would I check for sure? Do I just look for the part that's moving when I shake the tire?
