Have an 05 610 4x4... about 25k on it, and theres an annoying ticking sound in the front end when making turns, sometimes when moving straight along. I havent taken it to the dealer yet about it, just too much of a hassle. I -think- it may be a u-joint, since theres no zerk on these things, I cant just grease it and see if it goes away. . Hopefully there isnt a problem with it. . cant afford for the truck to be down for any amount of time and wait for the dealer to putz around. .

any ideas?

thanks

My '03 had a ticking noise in the front end, took it in last week, turns out it is the front axle U-joint on the drivers side, the parts came in and it is at the dealer right now being repaired. I only had 400 miles left on the bumper to bumper warrantee. I will let you know how it turns out, should be ready at 5 today.

Yep, I have the same thing. Mine is on the right front, so went to Napa and ordered it last week, should be in tomorrow. I just had the ball joint replaced with a greasable ball joint. When I get may tax return I'm going to go through the whole damn thing and replace what U joint's I haven't already replaced with greasable one's. What a joke the sealed one's are!!!!

yea thats what I think... its coming from both sides though... not good. I think I used 4WD mebe twice last winter. nothing since March though...

sigh. . guess a trip to the dealer is about all I can do... Anyone heard of the sealed u-joints failing? I got the 100k warranty on the truck for extra $$, so we`ll see how long they last. I just dont want them to fail 200mi from the shop... hmm

tnx

All the u joints on these 3rd. gens are a problem. My thoughts on them is that there is very little or no grease in them from new. I had 2 rear drive shaft joints replaced on the $100. 00 deductible. I looked at the new ones as they were being installed and asked if they were going to put some grease in them. I was told "NO", this is how they are installed. They did not last neither. . When the axle joints went a month ago I got the Precision greasables and did the rear drive shaft at the same time. I am going to do the front driveshaft as soon as I get a chance. The factory ones are not good. My 94 had over 300,000km. before a drive shaft joint failed and close to 400,000km on the axle joints which were still okay. I actually prefer sealed joints but they need to be good quality and have some grease from the get go.

The 05 has the grease eye... on the front U joint. When you open the hood you see a sticker on the frount by the radiator... . requires a needle addapter for the grease gun.

That joint is the 4wd shaft from the transfer case. I got the needle just havent figgered out where it goes heh

Got the truck back this morning, everything seems good, they replaced the U joint, and checked the other side and the ball joints. They said everything was fine. They also said it would be covered by the 7/70 warrantee with a $100 deducable if they go in the future. While it was there they also did two recalls, one for an ECM connector and one for a trans cooling line. The door seals were wearing so they replaced those as well, the new ones are different, just like the ones on the '06s. All and all a good dealer trip.
