Does anyone know how much weight is on the front axle of a 3rd gen 4x4?

I'm thinking/wondering about running load range "D" tires on my truck.

I put mine on the scales a few months back, full tank of fuel, my luggage, two toolboxes of millwright tools ( estimated at 160lbs ), my 215lbs, and the Tough Country bumper and Milemarker winch, the weight slip came out like this:

Steering Axle 5160 lbs.

Drive Axle 3160 lbs.

Total Weight 8320 lbs.

I believe its 5200#. Ran mine on a scale last weekend to see if I was over my tagged weight. . Front axle- 5020#, drive axle-9820 and 18,000 on my 2 trailer axles!!! Just shy of my 34,200# tag!! :-laf

Mine was 4580# on the front and 3200# on the rear. That was empty with me (160#) and about 5/8 tank of fuel.

edit: In factory trim also.

The key to knowing whether or not you can run a "d" rated tire is looking up what the tire is rated for by the manufacturer. There are some "d" rated tires out there that are rated up as much as some "E" rated tires. as long as you have a little wiggle room and you never run those tires over their weight rating and filled to the proper pressure... no worries. Make sure the weight rating you are going by IS for that exact tire you are planning to run, as many manufacturers make a couple different tires in the same size and family that have different weight ratings due to construction of that particular tire.
