When I apply the brakes on my '97 2500 (4x), the front starts to shake and the steering wheel wobbles back and forth. Otherwise, the truck drives fairly straight down the road at all speeds. What might be causing this?

Thanks!

Paul

Warped front brake rotors. Turn or replace the rotors, install new pads, and install an exhaust brake to avoid a repeat.

I agree with MChildress and Harvey. Another possibility might be that the front wheels are out of balance.

Also check steering components and have seen a bad ball joint cause the same symptoms in the past.

The rotors on these trucks are huge, they will warp but it takes a lot of abuse to make it happen.

Mike. :)

Make sure your calipers are both sliding freely, too. These trucks are also notorious for collapsed front brake hoses; often not even visible. A little track bar wear, a little uneven braking, and bingo -- front end shaking while braking.
