I have a front engine seal leaking on my 5.9 2003 model. Does anyone know how difficult it is change this seal or should I just take to someone and have it changed. It isn't leaking that bad, and it is not dripping on the floor as of yet. But every time I get the oil changed that mention it to me.

Don't assume it is all the front main seal. My '05 has a leak at the top of the gear case behind the fan mount at the block. It is enough to make a real mess on the front of the engine, but it never drips and I have less than a quart of oil usage between my 5000 to 6000 mile change intervals. I don't have any mechanics / shops I trust locally to perform the work where I feel that I would get it back better than I carried it in, so I am going to live with it until it gets worse. May not get any worse. You can do a search for other threads here for this leak. Others have or have had it as well. Appears to be mostly associated with the 3rd gen 5.9s from what I have seen here.

Changing the crank seal is pretty easy, solving the oil leak may be a bit harder. As was posted, the case will leak on the top side behind and under the fan support, run down the case and onto the damper hub and look exactly like a seal leak. Need to determine the actual leak source to fix it. If you are not loosing oil or coating th eunderside of the truck, probably not a big deal yet. Yopu can live with it and buy engine degreaser or track down the source and fix it.
