Well the end of this month my truck goes into Cummins Southwest to have the Front Gear Cover replaced, it's cracked at the bottom under the balancer.

How many other owners have expierenced this cover leaking?

I have talked to several other owners of first generation trucks some have a slight leak and some have nothing at all.

I will talk to the mechanic when it goes into the shop and try to find out if there is a cause.

I'll relay his opinion to the first generation forum when I get the truck back.

Jim, this is the first one I have heard of cracking.

What year is your truck?

Gene H. My truck is a 92, the same year as yours only it is a 2 wheel drive. Other than routine maintenance and a TPS this truck has been trouble free.

The quote on the fix was to replace the gear cover and gasket and they are going to look at the front seal also, replace if necessary. Runs about a grand. The have to remove the radiator, intercooler and the as condenser just to get the cam out then the gear cover comes off.

Best to have it done now.

My 90 has an oil leak in the front. I'm about to start chasing it down. I was hoping that it is only the front main seal which looks easy to replace. I did have a leak between the power steering pump and the back of the front cover that I fixed this past weekend. Little by little I'll get them! :D I'm anxious to hear how it turns out and what may have caused it.
