Well, went to the dealer for maintenance and they called and said the left hub and bearing have some play and need replaced, no surprise. Is that considered part of the powertrain and covered under the 7/70 warranty? I am at 60k right now. The dealer quoted me $670 to replace it, but if I have to pay I sure as heck am not going to replace it with OEM parts. I am going to go with the Dynatrac conversion and Carli upper/lower ball joints if it isnt covered.

As long as you use the hydraulic power of the steering the unit bearing pops right out. Helped my friend replace is 03' bearings. It took 20minutes for the driver side. Under 5minutes for the passenger side. Few hand tools, good jack and jack stands.

edit: $241 each at Rockauto. Use lots of antiseize during assembly.

IIRC, 2006 no longer comes with the 7/70 powertrain warranty; you have to buy an extended warranty. 3/36 is all that is standard.

unless you bought the highest level warranty, then it still does not cover the hub bearing. I found this out the hard way.

They explicitly exclude the frt wheel bearings.

I recently had both sides of the hub/axle/u-jt. replaced under warranty at 76k miles on my 2004. 5. I have an extended warranty to 85k miles.
Unfortunately the "boozoes" did not use anti seize in re-assembly.

more on the front end

This past Mon. while on my way back to Alaska from Az. the front differential grenaded. Howling, squealing etc. Took it to Anderson Dodge in Lake Havasu. They found all of the bearings/spacers ruined and metal pieces in the pumpkin.

They said it was caused by the improper installation of the two front axles last fall by a certified Dodge dealer in Casa Grande. The preloads were wrong or not set properly.

I called the Dodge place that did the axle last fall. He said they would probably step up to the plate and pay the $100 deductible as well as $200 for 4 nights in a RV park waiting on the repair in LH.

We will see how this all shakes out. Oo.

Well they did get off real cheaply as they have NOT stepped up and paid the $100 ded. and 4 nights stay.

That would be Browns Dodge Chrysler in Casa Grande, Az. I don't want to bring any bad publicity to them but..... !!

Anderson Dodge in Lake Havasu did a real good job for me.

After arriving in Anchorage I took my truck in to our local Anchorage Chrysler-Dodge for an end of warranty inspection. They replaced all of the tie rods, pitman arm, steering dampener under warranty. My entire front end is essentially new. Everything else in the running gear was still ok. :)

Credit where credit is due

Credit where credit is due... ... ... ... ... . Quentin from HENRY BROWN CHRYSLER-DODGE in Casa Grande, Az. called me today. My request has been approved and a check for $300 has been mailed.

A big atta-boy for them as they did the right thing. My truck is still doing well in the front axle dept. also.
