Can anyone tell me where I can source a front license plate holder for a 2015 Laramie Mega cab like is on the one on the cover of the 2014 Oct/Nov/ Dec issue of the TDR. The dealers say they are no longer listed for this truck. Because of my registration weight the state of TN requires my tag to be on the front and it looks like crap just hanging on the 2 screw tabs….

Did you buy your truck from a state which requires front license plates but your dealer didn't provide it? Now that I think of it, my Ram didn't come with one. I know my Durango came with one, loose in the back which we could optionally install. I know my Toyota came the same way, with one just loose in the back. Perhaps call a dealer in a state which requires them and see if you can at least get a part number? I would hope this could be sold to you for cheap or free, by just wording it as, "hey, my state requires one, and you didn't provide one and therefore I can't register my brand new $60K+ truck you numb skulls". Maybe elect to leave that last part off. LOL :)

Mingoglia… It was brought in from Indiana and I think they require one. It has the 2 nylon inserts for screws but it kinda looks tacky on a 65K truck. I checked my old state of NY which has tags front and rear and they can't find a number either…..

Here is what i am looking for

FYI. Indiana only requires a rear license plate. Maybe another FCA model bracket would work? The bolt pattern should be the same on all. I have one that came with our Intrepid, it's sitting in the garage collecting dust. I can check and see if it fits the bumper profile of my truck, if it does, it's yours if you want it.

I'll see if it fits when I get home this evening. If it does, I'll pm you. The bracket is the thick plastic type with good backing for the license plate.

Thanks. Fitting the profile right is important… I cannot believe they don't offer one for the truck. as you can see in the picture something is available. I just don't want to have to buy 20 different brackets to see what fits up….

The frame in the picture looks like a dealer advertising one! John Elway Colo or some such thing.

I agree. It's not a "traditional" bracket. I have a great CABO WABO CANTINA license plate frame, but it's hanging on the bar. I'm with JJCOTTE, I can't believe the bracket isn't available for these trucks. Hmm, maybe a good aftermarket business start up:rolleyes:

JJCOTTE, The license plate bracket I have didn't fit the profile of the bumper. It bolted up, but looked odd on the front of the CTD. Sorry, hopefully you'll find something.

The majority of States have two license plates. If two license plates are issued they both must be displayed. One on the rear and one on the front. I can't speak for all of the two license plate States, but in WI dealers are REQUIRED to supply a front mounting bracket. The problem is that a lot of dealers, regardless of vehicle brand, will tell you that you really don't need to put the license plate on.. Failure to display the front license plate can result in a "fix it ticket" to a citation with a hefty fine. The dealers don't tell you that, and I'm sure they would not pay your fine. I agree that a lot of vehicles are not even designed with a decent place to mount a plate, but I don't need to give the Police a reason to stop me... Good luck finding your license plate mount.

I was curious what states do or do not require it and found this map, figured I'd share with the class for those with the same curiosity. 19 that don't require, 31 that do. Personally if there was someone who brought up a bill changing the law in a state, I wouldn't imagine people would be too opposed to getting rid of the requirement for two in that particular state. I don't see it as being a disadvantage only having one. If the police pull you over, he's behind you. If you're in a photo radar state, they take the pic from behind (and the front). If there's a hit and run, usually they're driving away and you're looking at the back of the vehicle.

I know Red River Dodge in Heber Springs AR has one they use all new truck that looks good. Look on their website at their trucks and then call them they should ship you one.

Call Dave Smith in Kellogg, Id. They sell nation wide.

But looking at the picture linked Ram went away from a front bracket as that truck doesn't have one either.

Mingoglia.. This map does not cover vehicles over 10,000 lbs GVW. Tennessee is listed as not required for a front tag but that is for cars and vehicles registered under 9,000. Basically ¾ ton and above are required to run our tag on the front and not on the rear… Still one license plate but opposite location… Reason behind it is "normally" vehicles in this size tow trailers and then no plate is visible….

CBari.. I looked at their website and didn't see any on their 3500's.. The search continues..
