Last night I found my Ball joints have excessive play in them (at 20,000) so I will be taking a trip to the dealer, for that and the door seal replacement. But I have also noticed that the front lower part of my engine has gotten a very light coat of engine oil on it around the crank pulley area (more like just a little sweat), it looks like it would be the front main but doesn't look like it would even be enough to ever drip.

Is this normal (for a diesel) or is the front seal possibably going out???

Another possible leak:

On the inspection cover (bell housing/transmission) there is a light grayish film, another "sweat type" leak of something but again not enough to ever drip... I would suspect this is from the converter area, but maybe it is just some kind of assembly grease (anti seaze or something) it isn't red and it isn't any engine oil leak substance that I have ever seen.

Now for some history, the trucks engine gets rinsed off about every other week, with some light soapy water and a garden hose, so the front leak might be alittle more than what I thinking, but the back might just be from water / soap rinsing out any kind of assy lube in back... .

I don't smell any fuel in the oil and the oil level doesn't move between my 5k oil changes intervals (I use Delvac 1300).

I just want to make sure that if the dealer says, "That slight leak is normal for a diesel" then I really know if it is or not... I know on a gasser it isn't, but pretty new to this diesel world...

ONE LAST THING:

Has the TSB for the PS hose been modified to include the 04's yet??? I took mine in about 6 months ago for the new hose and the service writer looked it up (S/N's) and said it didn't apply to mine (even though I showed him the hose does not have the weight on it and I get the steering wheel / pedal vibes)...

Sorry to ask these questions, but there is not a big skill level with the dealers in my area so I have to basically go in loaded with complete instructions on what / how to do it... Heck (last time) even grabbed the DRB III out of his hand so I could "enable the high idle feature" that he said didn't exist even after they did the flash... should seen the look on his face when it worked

Thanks in advance,

Dave

I have the same problem. Took mine to local dealer & there is a service bullentin out that tells what & how to correct the problem. I have a 2001\2500 w\56000 miles. The dealer told me it would be corrected under warranty. Good Luck

Thanks for the info, are you saying this is a 3g issure also or does it just list the 2g? Where do you get your truck serviced, it might be worth a drive over to Alton to if the service is better...

Yo Hoot

What do you mean a HP FP leak  ... . man that is all I need to start having FP issues... .

Thanks guys, it sounds like this is a fixable problem, now I just need to start working up my "threatening letter to set on the front seat to let that mechanic know that there are no scratches on the hood / fenders or bumper and I expect it to stay that way" ... (no draging air hoses across this paint job) :p ... .

Thanks again,

Dave
