I'm approaching 30K miles on my 2007 3500 4x4 SRW Quad Cab. Been reading in the forums about changing out the fluids in both front and rear differential.

Do folks recommend replacing the "reusable" gaskets at 30K or should they still be in good shape to keep from leaking? The Diffs were serviced at 15K.

Thanks for the advice,

Bob

Reuse the original. It is a very high quality steel gasket encased in rubber. I have re-installed mine 4 times with no leaks. Just don't lay it on the floor and roll your creeper over it!:{

I'm surprised that you have to change differential fluid that often on an 07 model. My 05 schedule A has no interval for changing differential fluids, which is most of my driving. Schedule A doesn't even say to check the fluid level On the other hand schedule B does say to change differential fluids every 15K miles. That seems like way too often.

Why the vast difference in the two schedules?

Hi George,

I mostly haul a Lance Camper on my Dodge. The local dealer had a special on fluid changes so I went ahead and did it at 15K. I wanted to see what the 75-90W looked like. It was pretty clean. I'm sticking to the owner manual recommendations for service at 30K since I have an extended warranty.

Or put a nice big bend in it while trying to wipe it clean. :rolleyes:

They sure are a high quality gasket, though.

I recommend a light coat of differential oil on both sides of the gasket before install.

I too haul a Lance camper and don't tow. I changed the differential lubricant at 15K miles with Valvoline 75-90W synthetic (which was the original fill) and will maintain a 30K mile change interval. The lubricant that I drained at 15K looked like new and there was no metal residue in the differential. I used the reusable gasket and no leaks.

It's quite a difference isn't it. I haven't figured that one out either.

I have a MH rear installed, and a MH front to go on at the next change (thank you TDR). I am going to run 50K mile intervals with Amsoil SVG 75w-90. It's probabaly overkill, but thats many years of use.

I run the same fluid in my wife's 4runner and go 75K miles on the fluid. . well I will go 75K miles, it's been in there since 05 and still has 20K to go.

That sounds like a good plan. You and I have about the same miles on our 05's. I believe 15K interval is total overkill.
