electric brake question

I saw a hitch receiver mounted on the frame under the front bumper of a Dodge truck. Anybody know where to purchase this setup. I would like to use it for a receiver hitch bike rack. I don't want a rear mount since I have a slide-in. Anyone else have any experience on mounting a bike rack on the front of the truck would be much appreciated. Thanks !

The DrawTite 65003 is a no drill front mounted receiver for our trucks. I have one on my model year 2000 Ram 2500.

The airdam (if equipped) will need a 2. 5 inch square cut out just beneath the front license plate. The receiver won't work with OEM towhooks.

The receiver is rated at 500 lbs. tongue wieght and 9000 lbs winch line pull.

I got one and love it. It held while a John Deere 7000 series 4wd tractor pulled me out, with the 5er hooked up behind me. It is also handy for the cargo basket up front.

Like they said, the Drawtite 65003. Even if you have tow hooks, take them off and replace them with the Drawtite - it has built in tow loops. I have one on my 2001. 5 and have found it perfect for maneuvering trailers into very tight spots. Here's where I bought mine:

It says 94-98, but it fits at least through 2001. 5. I assume it fits the 2002 also.

Even if you don't have the air dam, if you have a front mounted license plate you'll need to relocate it up or cut a chunk out of the bottom (what I did).

For those of you that have installed these already, do you think it would interfere with a set of Hadleys that are mounted behind the bumper crossmember??

Kev

No problem with the Grovers attached to the rear surface of the front crossmember. on my 2500. It doesn't come close to interfering.

Thanks for the helpful information. So far the best price I have found on the internet is $99. 55. Nice that there is no welding involved.

Anyone know how much weight can be carried on the front of the 3500?

I would like to occasionally carry a 350 pound street bike there, is that overloading the frame/suspension?

Thanks.

I also have a slide in and use a platform off the front to carry those long items that get in the way inside the camper, chairs and such. I have also seen platforms that incorporate a bike rack.

Whats involved with install. Just bolt it up or is there stuff that needs to be unbolted first, like bumper and so on??

I think it depends on the year of your truck. Mine is a 2000 and just bolts up into exisiting holes. You must remove the air dam under the bumper or cut a small slot in the middle to install the hitch.

i hang 800lbs off of my draw tite while sled pulling. don't get the hidden hitch it hangs a lot further down than the draw tite does.

I put a Hidden Hitch on my 2001 2500. Bolt on. Not tooo bad a job to install. About 2 hrs. Mostky reading the instructions. Must understand the 'captive U bolts on the truck and remove the NUTS not the back of the U bolt. I use it for sporring my boad and it is WONDERFUL! Paid about $120 locally in California. Worth every penny.
