Anyone with advice for adding a front receiver to the front cross member?

I would like to carry some bikes on the front of my rig and perhaps a kayak. In looking at my options, it looks like cutting a hole in the front air dam and bolting a receiver to the cross member should allow me to carry light loads.

Anyone done this?

:D

I have one from DrawTite on the front of my model year 2000 Ram 2500 4X4.

I don't have the part number handy. Installation was fairly easy-a hole in the air dam and six bolts. Four of the bolts replace the four holding the front stabilizer to the frame and the other two use existing holes in the frame. It's a no-drill installation.

The open end of the receiver is tucked up close to the factory license plate mount and is slightly behind the license plate. You have to look to be aware of it.

Front Receiver

I just installed a "Hidden Hitch" from J. C. Whitney on my '99 3500 and it went on quite easily and its opening sits just under the front license frame and back far enough to be unnoticed and not interfere with clearance. Something I discovered that I had not foreseen was the difficulty in maneuvering a wide enclosed trailer into tight spots as you cannot see around the sides as you can with the mirrors when backing it in. You need a spotter. As for carrying things on a rack, I have considered carrying a generator and extra fuel up there on a 500# capacity platform..... Look out Beverly Hills... . here comes the Clampets!

Which hitch did you order of the huge number of 'hidden hitches'? Looks like a great idea, I can't tell which one would bolt up to the front. Thanks in advance!

I also have a DrawTite front receiver, i had to cut my air dam and

move my license plate up about 1/4". I orderd it from Mileys.

My dad did that on a Chevy, the dealer had mentioned to him that it has POTENTIAL to MAYBE screw with your airbag timing in the event of a crash. It depends how beefy you make it, personally if I were just going to haul bikes on it only make it strong enough for bikes, that way if you do get in a wreck it will still collapse and allow your airbags to funtion.

My dad on the other hand made his stronger than his frame, which I suppose isn't saying much for a Chevy :D

I've got a WARN Front Reciever. Best fit, finish and instructions that I've ever seen on an aftermarket product. 10 out of 10.
