I just got a new front end replacement to put in place of my factory bumper (thanks santa) and it weighs about 300 to 350 pounds, and I was just wondering if i need to do something with the front shocks.

I don't haul anything, but i was just wondering if there was going to be to much wear on the factory shocks

Jason,
Nice to see "SANTA" was so good to you #ad

I would suggest that you measure from the frame to the ground before taking off your OEM bumper then install the new one and then measure again in the same spot to give you and idea of any droop. If it does, you need to look and higher rate front springs not the shocks.
Let us know what you come up with.
Merry Christmas!
Mike

Thanks Mike, I am going to put it on tomorrow i am at work today, so i will check it and keep everyone posted

just curious, where would i look for a higher rated spring, and are those hard to put on... . keeping in mind that i am not mechanically inclined at all

interesting question.

i have a denver off road bupmer and a winch on the front of mine total weight about 325lbs. my front end sagged slightly less than one inch, but the front springs and shocks suffered massively. i was bottoming the front end out on mild bumps. i replaced my front shocks with springs made by Dayton auto spring in ohio. these new ones give you 1000lbs of greater weight load. i also went to rancho RS9000 shocks on setting #3. this set up works extremely well for everyday driving. the springs are right on as far as capacity goes, and with the ranchos i can adjust the ride from very plush for interstate cruising to rock hard for some serious off roading. the spring also brought the front end back up to about 1/2" higher than stock.

again i am very pleased with my setup with the extra weight that i am carrying.

Ok, now i know i am probably going to have to change my springs, how do i know what to get, is there a number rating or brand, or what, in other words how do i know what to get to get the extra 1000lb weight limit. .

sorry about the stupid questions, but i am not am not mechanically inclined at all.
thanks guys

Well put the front end replacement on tuesday... the front end only dropped 1/4 inch. . but i can tell by the handling that i am going to probably need new springs so i am going to try jkern's springs..... but it looks good, if i can figure out how ya'll post pictures on here i will put one up. .

... . Jeremy... . is there a web site for the place where you got those springs?... .

Jason,

not that i know of. i do know that the manufacture is somewhere in ohio (eastern i think) the stuff that i e-mailed you was the only information that the shop would give me, i know it wasn't much, but hopefully it will give you a start.

cliffman,

i'll see if i can get ya some pics, may take a day or two though!! what makes this bumper so special is that it is made entirely out of 1/4" and 3/16" 6160 (i think) plate aluminum. pound for pound, it is stronger than steel, and about 250 punds or more lighter than a comparable steel bumper. i like mine alot, the only problem is that is sticks out about 12" from the front of the truck, but this depends what size winch that you specify for it. plus it has a built on push bar and brush guard, all at a whopping 135 pounds!!
