Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 2nd gen fuel question, details

2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 98.5 2500 no 12v power

It seems no one has experience with this kit and I just took delivery of it yesterday. Looking it over I've decided to hire this out for installation as I'm too old and these parts are heavy duty! I will post back my thoughts (good and bad) after install is complete in a couple weeks.

LOL! I am finding myself thinking the very same thing the older I get too. Between failing eye sight, bad back, arthritis, and age things aren't as easy as they once were 15 years ago.

I've been in a wheelchair since I first got my truck and have been able to do most all the work on it but now at the age of 75 I need to just bite the bullet and pay someone to do the heavy lifting. Other then cutting off the brackets on the frame that attach the control arms, this is a easy bolt up kit with only minor adjustments to the caster needed. I was going to do it myself at one point but found a shop willing to do this and my track bar for less then $750. I'll report back after I drive it around some. I know for certain that some of the bushings on the OEM control arms are not good.

Just got the truck back and drove it around about 50 miles so far. Some of the clunking noises are gone now when I hit potholes as I knew a couple of the rear bushings on the upper control arms were bad and itnow has a very solid feel to it. I also had the track bar replaced and that also helped immensely in getting back the solid, stable feel to the front end. I'm happy so far. Talking to the installers they were a bit caught off guard by how much effort it took to cut/grind off the OEM brackets from the frame. The bracket from the kit that mounts on the frame is provided with three grade 8 bolts (requiring drilling 1/2" holes in the frame) so the installers additionally welded this bracket to the frame inside and out for a more secure install. When I get the time this weekend I will get under and take some pictures. Can't wait to tow my trailer with this new setup.

Those interested in this long control arm kit and have the 139" wheelbase truck (quadcab shortbed) should be aware that the support brace holding the rear of the transfer case skid plate will have to be removed, moved or somehow adapted is someway other then stock. The brackets of the kit that mount on each frame rail and hold the long control arms can only be attached where the skid plate brace is located. I never saw this mentioned anywhere from the supplier. I don't find this a real big deal as a have a fabricator willing to craft a piece to make it all work. The skid plate brace is not a structural part of the frame so removing it altogether doesn't compromise the frame.
