My truck did not come with factory tow hooks. Has anyone ever installed a set of tow hooks onto their dodge? How much work is it? Did you get a new front spoiler too or just cut the old one to make room for the hooks? How much did they cost?

You will have to search backthrough the threads. I have em but they came with the rig. There is a kit for those hooks and must be installed properly.

I've been looking for a 2nd gen tow hook kit for a while. Dealer would charge me about $150 for the kit. Make sure when you get a set you get the mounting brackets at the same time because a lot of the cheaper tow hooks available do have them and if you don't have the brackets you can't mount the hooks (I suspose you could build bracket but I don't think it would be that easy). I've read different opinions whether you have to cut the spoiler but I haven't seen anyone that said you have to purchase a new spoiler just that you may have to cut the old one. It may depend on the year also, so hopefully someone with a 02 can give a more complete answer. I'm actually thinking of putting in a front hidden hitch which is apparently a bolt on upgrade (not sure if it works with a DSS or not) which cost about $100 and then using the reciever to hold the tow hook or trailer ball( for positioning a trailer) as the use may require.

hummm? 02 same as 98 right? just put some on my 98. dodgeparts.com had a good price. w/brackets easy install just read directions. omitt that it says you need acouple of people to hold up bumper. i just used a screw jack on wood blocks in the oval vent space w/verry slight presser & did 1 side at atime . the cutouts are premarked in the spoiler ; a dremmel w/ 1/2'' drum sander is handy for this .

hope this helps -john

I installed a set on my 94 and the 99 I had. I then took them off the 99 when I sold it and installed them on my 96. Anyway, The spoiler has the cutout marked on the backside. Remove the spoiler, drill holes in each corner and use a cutoff wheel or something similar. As far as installation of the hooks, it is pretty simple. Order the tow hook kit and it will come with mounting brackets, hardware and instructions. I am guessing the complete job will take maybe an hour.

The rear surface of the OEM air dam ("spoiler") has molded guidelines for the tow hook cutouts. Crawl under and look.

You're looking for P/N 82202863 - available for less than the $139 list at many online dealers.

Thanks for the imput. I'll be going down to the local dealership tomorrow to get a set on order assuming they are priced fair.

Frame Mount Receiver

I hooked up with a Cummins tech who welded a frame mount receiver for me. I bought a Warn clevis w/D-ring which i can insert when needed, neat set-up. I believe there are bolt on receivers available but not like this one!

I put hooks from dodgeparts.com on my non-sport 01 last xmas. Install was very straightforward. Sport models require a couple of additional steps if I remember correctly. If you look at your spoiler, you should see some faint lines molded in the plastic representing the cutout for the hooks. I cut mine with a pocketknife and cleaned it up with file/sandpaper. Best part is... I got to use mine already!

to explain my # p/n 82204881 a little better , the hook has 4 bolt holes & uses 2 of them . 1 & 3 for non sport & 2 & 4 for sport, maybe there are different kits available ?

interesting

If you don't mind a little extra wrenching, it might be worth a shot to look in the nearest salvage yards. That's where I got mine here in Colorado Springs. I got the hooks, brackets, and bolts off a '96 for about $20. 00, if I remember correctly (I pulled them off myself with my own tools). I guess it depends on the people running the yard, too. The guys at the yard I dealt with were great, but I have also been to a couple junkyards where they act like they would just as soon shoot you as help you.

I had hooks on my '94 2500 gasser and took them off to put on my 97 CTD, but they didn't fit. The holes aren't the same in the frame. I keep thinking about drilling new holes or welding, but I don't ever get around to it. I thought the 2nd gen frames were the same for the entire run, but I guess not.

For the money, you can't beat the Drawtite front reciever setup. Easy install with all parts provided. Once installed you can insert anything you can adapt to a 2" square tube like a tow ball, hook, winch, step, carry rack, etc.

I paid 105. 00 delivered to the house. That setup is also much stronger than the tow hooks themselves.

Just my 2 cents... ... .

I have a DrawTite 65003 mounted at the front of my model year 2000 Ram. The Mopar tow hooks and DrawTite receiver want to occupy the same space - I gave the tow hooks to my son.

I do have a DSS installed along with the receiver.

Well, I went to the local dealership today. They didn't have a clue as to what or where to find tow hooks for my 02. I gave him the part number and it shows they have them avaible, but it did not show what the item was. It was $139. 00. They said that part number 82202863 is no longer avaible and that part number 82204881 was now taking it's place. I don't have a sport... . just a regular SLT package. I hope it fits!!!
