Got a question on the front u-joint on the front driveshaft.

I need to swap the flange that comes off this joint that attatches to the flange on the pinion. Anyway, I noticed it has no external rings to hold the joint in place, and I looked and did not see an internal ring either. What gives?

I've always changed my u-joints using the socket and hammer method, and I tried whapping this one and it didn't even budge.

I'm pretty sure they're all internal rings. They are tough to see because they fit so close and sort of rust together with the rest of it.

I think they are glued in. must be heated to melt the glue to remove. that what i was told when i had mine replaced. the new ones will come with inside clips

Hickory is right. They come from the factory with a blue silicon type glue, and heat is needed to get them to move. The replacements will have the clips.

You guys mean the caps themselves are glued in place? Will a 1-ton arbor press remove them if you heat it up a bit?

Damn, Glue? That's about the most screwed up thing I have ever heard. Hopefully I can heat them up enough w/ my propane torch to melt it out.

Thanks for all the help!

Ryan,

You won't have any issues with an arbor press. You can use any method you like, just have to use some heat. Propane will take longer, but you should be able to get-r-done. You'll probably see the stuff oozing out if using acetalyne (sp?).
