I noticed under the hood there is a label stating that the front u-joints should be lubed at oil change time. There is a DC part number for this lithium grease.

Can any 'good quality' lithium based grease be used for this application?

Thanks...

My 04, my sons 04. 5 and my 05 have no provision to lube the front joints... . they failed at about 110K miles(04) and were replaced with joints that can be lubed... .

John please share with me what year your truck is..... and where the label is... . I own several trucks and to be honest never looked for a label.....

The only writing on my radiator is about the AC and the only zerks on the truck are at outer tie rod ends next to the wheel.

I have an 05 also and noticed the tag. It refers to the front CV joint. I know it is a sin, but I let the dealer do the first oil change and wanted to make sure he got the CV joint. It turns out that it does not have zirk fittings so it can't be greased. The dealer said that EPA made them take them out so they would not get any grease on the road. I guess we better watch it near the end of the warenty.

My original post was a question about a 'good quality' lube for the front u-joints...

I discovered that Valvoline has such a product: SynPower Synthetic grease. It is a lithium-based lubricant that I found at NAPA. I'm sure other parts houses have it as well. I also bought a good grease gun and the required needle tip.
