My ABS And Brake lights have been lit on mydashboard for some time now and I took it into a dealer to read the codes from the companion module.

Apparently the Driver's side front ABS sensor needs replaced. The dealer quoted me $122 for the ABS sensor.

My truck is a 98. 5 4x4 SLT Quad Cab with 4 wheel ABS.

Does this sound like a reasonable price ?

Any way to tell is the sensor is really bad or not ? How difficult would it be for me to replace this myself ?

I'll be sure to check the connectors in the path first to make sure nothing is loose first.

Thanks for the input,

My ABS sensor went out with about 500 miles on the truck. The dealer said it was probably dropped at the assembly line. They claimed the sensor was around $100 plus labor if it hadn't been under warranty. They had to order the sensor, but installed it in about 10 minutes after I brought it back in.

you have to pull the rotor off the hub assembly and loosen a 3/16" allen bolt. 1/2 hour job in the driveway with proper tools. $100. 00 is in ball park, shop around local parts stores also.

I got the ABS Sensor replaced. It wasn't too bad to do.

I managed to be able to pull the sensor out of the hub without having to take the rotor off (just needed a short 5mm allen wrench).

Testing the old sensor, I got 0 ohms. The new one shows about 1100.

Now that it's replaced, the lights on the dashboard are all cleared. :D
