I was hoping I could get someone to give me a break down on servicing the front wheel bearings on my 01 Ram. The service manual is alot of $$$$$$$ :--) That I dont have right now and I feel it always gets done better at home, which I read alot here. I read something a while back that the brake caliper was a problem getting off. Any help, I,ll say Thanks now. Terril.

You have sealed bearing in the hubs. What that means is you take them out and throw them away. How many miles on your truck. DC replaced mine for making noise at around the 45,000 mark. Oo. Since your in Reno, you need to look up John Holmes at Reno Dodge (I think). He would be your best expert for information. He is a contributing editor to TDR.

Terril,

I understand about the price of the FSM, but there is no better way of understanding how to work on your truck.

One simple mistake you may make trying to work on the truck without the FSM could cost you far more than the price of the manual.

imo, it's required reading and money well spent.

Bearings

To let you know, John is in Carson Dodge. Nobody in there right mind would or should deal with Reno Dodge. I tried 1 time to get transmission fluid and t-case and axle grease, they didnt get 1 right, as stated oh thatal work. Carson is the only place to go out my way. The reason I asked is I have a 15,000 warrenty service on the front bearings as they put it " to repack" . So as you say if they are sealed how do you do that??????

4wd trucks are throw away and cant be serviced but I think 2wd are still the old style that can be cleaned and repacked.

I agree with Dane... BUY the factory shop manuals. Besides your TDR membership, It is the best money spent! I think that they were $90. 00 and they pay for themselves the first time you need them. You want to get them before they are out of print. Chris

shop manuals

just my . 02 cents. I am not a gearhead. I change oil and do some other things too. I have been doing my own routine maint for many years. I wouldn't touch any of my vehicles without a Factory shop manual. There is alot of good info in that thing.
