i heard a rumor about the front wheel bearings failing on the 2500 and 3500 4X4 and the wheels falling off????? something about the need to drill and install grease zerks so as to not rely on the factory sealed grease. any thoughts? i have a 7500mi trip coming up with over 2k on the truck already, thinking of zerks maybe. ????

keep the shiny sided up:cool:

AKTrapper,

I just replaced both of mine at 172k and they were no where close to letting the wheels fall off. Actuall I didn't have to do them but had the money at the time and did them. Don't know if any wheels actually fell off due to that but doubt it. But they are pricey. The best place I've found them is at Youngs gear. They are in Anchor town too. Don't bother drilling and putting in a grease zerk. You would have to be religious in greasing them. Besides, all you will likely be doing is letting contamination get into the bearings themselves.

thats what i was thinking. i personally havent experienced any bearing problems and have had mine in numerous stages of tear down over the years without finding any problems. thanks for the info.
