that might have frozen alright, but wouldnt i have all the pressure at the guage?my sending unit is attached to a grease gun hose at the bottom of the canister. i will change filter anyhow it is about due. thanks. any other thoughts?

I know that some use a hose attached to the bottem of the filter on later models . This is from what I read on this site the after filter is the drain line at the same with a T or Y ? I had a VW Bus In 1994 that was parked out side my quaters at Fort Knox ky I had started the motor and was sitting in the kitchen while having a cup of coffee and all of a sudden a large flow of hot oil came out of the back of the Bus . I quickly stoped the motor in five ghiant steps . The oil came out of the dip stick hole as the stick was half way and the oil was in that area . Looking for the cause took about five min . The breather hose that was venting the motor and ran back to the intake manifold was to long and draped down in the middle condinsation had filled a good part of the hose and over night the water froze and pluged the hose Psi built up in the pan and out came the oil fix add oil take hose off slam it like a wip on the ground out came the ice . Cut a few inches from hose and wired it up . Never had any problem from it again. Ron in Louisville KY . :p

If you get your problem solved please let me know what you find

I have a 94 2500 and since it's gotten cold it's been doing pretty much the same thing. I finally took it to the dealer but like i said it's still doing it. I replaced the lift pump , then they said the fuel water seperator was leaking they replaced it and the truck still sometimes is hard to start then when it does start it runs rough and then shuts off again. Then other times it runs fine.

DU516 i did change the filter, but not right away. i let it go for a week @ pretty much the same temps. it lookek like there might have been a little water in the filter housing. it was to dam cold to fuss with it . i just real fast changed out the filter. i suppose the stealer put in a new filter in yours& probaly would have noticed any water in your fuel. who knows. good luck with it ,i hope you get it fixed . carl

a few days have passed & so now has the lift pump. had it towed to stealer. oh god i hope the mechanic has worked on diesels before. i had no pressure to 2 lbs, sometimes, hardly ran& smoked like hell.
