The initial report is good. There doesn't seem to be as much vibration at high speed (70 or better). The new pilot bearing and input shaft most likely help as well. It's been awhile since I recall the truck driving as smoothly. I want to drive it awhile before coming to any conclusions. The shifting feels more deliberate and smoother than it has since the SBC was installed. This is definitely good. The mechanic told me that the bearings and synchronizers were in excellent shape, considering the mileage on the truck(88K). Two thumbs up to Amsoil, for that good news. No unusual metal deposits found on any of the magnets inside. The input shaft and seal, plus the associated bearings were covered under warranty, as was the AC problem I had. The evaporater coil was bad. Counting my deductible, all of those repairs came to a nice round total of $400. The mechanics and service manager are aware of the BOMBS on the truck. They like my truck, not only cause it's clean, but because it's the fastest one they've worked on around here.
One sad note: The service manager quite in a huff last Thursday. Nobody expected it and I don't know what it was over. The new guy they moved into the position seems to be of the same type of attitude. This is good. I've only got 11. 5K to go on my warranty. I've definitely got my money's worth. One other note: They replaced the rear main seal while they had the transmission off. They said it wasn't leaking, but they did it anyway.
The only bad part about all of this is my EGT gauge does not work, now. And I can't figure out why.
