I was curious to see if anyone out there is using one of the 30" resonators and what exhaust system you are running. I was looking to put a 5" system on because I like the deep sound but I don't want a drone. Any advice would be appreciated. Looking to pull the plug soon on a turbo back. Also on the 06, do you need a programmer if the kitty doesn't find its way home? Truck is an 06 Mega 4x4 2500. It is bone stock right now but changing. Has 126k miles on it. Had gauges (Turbo, Trans, EGT) since I bought it at 18k miles with a DD trans pan and royal purple. I am buying a Smarty Jr. Controller, regearing to 4.10 and putting in a Trutrack. Was going to upgrade the TC and valve body and put a different turbo and intercooler on it along with larger injectors.

If you want the exhaust to perform and not cause problems forget a full 5", it will kill the bottom end to a degree. A 4" exhaust is more than adequate to beyond 600 HP so it is really just a bling upgrade. Sound scan be deepened by using the correct mufflers and resonators. The more resonator is has the deeper the sound will be. An Aero Turbine 4040XL with a 4"x16" resonator after it and a long 5" tip gives a good sound, no drone and more than enough flow. A 5" full tail pipe might deepen it a bit more but not sure on that yet, you really don't want to run 5" up to the muffler as that is the critical flow area of the exhaust system.

Stock CAC is not a problem, you would need to be looking for big HP and land speed records to really need the efficacy of anything better. A lot of the turbo, injectors, trans mods will depend on what you want the truck for as primary usage. Need to decide on that first and how much you want to spend for effect.

These trucks have no sensors or controls in the exhaust system, all engine mounted sensors and hard parts for emissions control, the CAT can be removed with no programmer needed.

Again, depending on your goals for the truck, the Smarty Jr is a good choice for a basic tuner. If you really want to exploit the ISB and its capabilities then consider the Smarty Touch and UDC Pro programming suite. Yes, you will spend some $$ to get all the pieces but when you do the only limit is your imagination.

Cerberusiam the description for that muffler indicates it has an internal resonator. You suggest the additional resonator as well?

I have the stock 4inch exhaust, and I removed the cat and muffler , and the sound has a deep tone that is not overbearing, or to loud. I installed mine right under the passengers heels where it starts to straighten out per FTE. There is no drone and the egt's are the same as when I had it straight piped.

Yes, even with an internal resonator in the Aero it was too raspy and enough drone I did not like it. added a 16" resonator right behind the Aero and that made all the difference. Tone deepened, rasp and snarl went away as did the drone. When you get after it hard it will rumble. Listening from outside the truck it is a distinctive sound as it accelerates. Much, much, better than a straight pipe or even just the CAT.

Thanks for the reply!
I would like to do this instead of buying a cat-back system, but upon searching I can't find a 4" inlet -outlet resonator on their web page. Will keep looking.

FTE 4" by 30" res. Is what I have. Killed my drone that showed up when I ditched the stock muff.
I also run a 24" flopro straight through muff. Very good manners.
I first tried there 17"res but this didn't get all the drone.

If I want more noise, I'll drop the flopro.

Removing the cat is only good for 4-5 hp not worth doing in my opinion.I have a 4'' AFE cat back system with a very short straight through muffler in the stock location, because of my long travel rear suspension it dumps with a down turn in front of the rear diff. There is no drone even when towing even at low rpm.Fairly quiet in the cab, still has an impressive note on accel

By my measurement, I need a 32" FTE to replace my "CAT test pipe", but can't contact them for advice. How did your 30" FTE fit so well?
