i have have 06 with a cummins it has 1300 miles,i would like to know. if i can start adding power service fuel additive? the stuff you can buy at walmart. or is this not a good idea?i have always used it in my older trucks with excelent results. thanks

I had a 134k on my 03 when I traded it in. I used PS and Howes in the beginning.

In the end I would use the last quart of my Rotella Synthetic and the 3 quart bottle of PS at 1/2 quart per tank.

If I was between oil changes I would use the 3 quart PS and 1 quart MMO at 1/2 quart per tank.

When I picked up my new 05 (6/24/06) i POURED THE REMAINDER OF MY BOTTLE IN THE TANK BEFORE THEY WENT AND FILLED IT UP!

i have had amsoil in my truck for 80k miles and only due to mechanical failure have my injectors caused problems, i can tell a difference in performance in useing it

I've used P/S Diesel Kleen on my 06 M/C since I bought it now have 23k. I have used it on other D/C's in the past. Good for improving low quality fuels with cetane booster, lubricity, and injector cleaner. Many members use it, even on the ferd and cheby forums.

Indeed a lot of people do use Power Service products. There's nothing I know of wrong with Power Service, but I believe it's predominantly ordinary diesel fuel.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with using an additive from day 1.

I have used Stanadyne performance formula and primrose 405-409 since day one of buying my truck new. I have around 40,000 miles on the OD with no problems. coobie :)

Amalgamated TDR formula. Found this on TDR forum and have been using it for the past 30k. For the first 20k I had used Stanadyne performance formula. Truck has over 50k and I have not needed a trip back to dealer yet. Very happy with the vehicle.

I did recently recieve the recall to make the horn beep if vehicle is not in park but I am choosing not to bring her back. Don't want anyone else touching my truck unless absolutely needed.

I'm an Amalgamated user also. I've emailed them twice now to find out how their blend will be affected by the Ultra Low Sulpher stuff. They don't seem to want to reply. Makes me wonder if TDR is enough of a market for them to respond to.

Ryan,

Why do say it's only ordinary diesel fuel? If that's all it is, I'll switch to something else. I'm looking for added lubrication primarily, but injector cleaner is a plus also. What do you use?

We discussed it at length in this thread. Interestingly, PS no longer posts their MSDS sheets on their website. So I made a request for it, and it's changed quite a bit from when that thread was made. Although I believe the formulation remains the same, they now cite "proprietary information" as preventing full disclosure of what's in it. But they do list the contents of Diesel Supplement as 40%-60% "Hydrocarbons" (which means diesel fuel to me) and Diesel Kleen as 50%-70% hydrocarbons. As I recall, the original MSDS sheets actually said "No. 2 Diesel Fuel".

I won't say what I use now because I don't want to sound like I'm either bashing Powerservice or promoting a particular product...

If anyone wants a copy of the MSDS that PS sent me just drop me a PM with your email address.

I previously used only Power Service, but I agree with Ryan that it's mostly #2 diesel. I wanted something more concentrated, and figured that I could mix it with my own diesel if I wanted to thin it out. I switched to Primrose PowerMaster 405 concentrate. One quart costs $9. 50 and is enough to treat 750 gallons of diesel. I mix 2 ounces of Primrose with 6 ounces of MMO and 8 ounces of diesel fuel (for 16 ounces of custom mix per tank, and 2 doses of this mix in a 32 ounce bottle), so my total cost per tank is roughly $1. It was over $1. 50 with Power Service. In the winter I run a slightly different mix and substitute PowerService anti-gel for the #2 diesel.

I have used Power Service from day one with great results. (7k and counting) I have no special loyalty to the product, but it does have a good track record and it is a big plus that 100's of Wal-Mart stores around the U. S. have it. BTW I have not seen it any cheeper than at Wal-Mart. That all said, I did use Lucas fuel treatment on one of my long road trips with great results also. IMHO, use a name brand additive that is easy to get and does not cost to much so you can afford to use it on every fill up. Just my . 2$

I was using Power Service but changed to Lucas Fuel Treatment: Lucas

I have been using 4 ounces per tank for the last 10K miles in the truck with no issues and I use it in the cars as well.

A local company that rebuilds injectors recommended Stanadyne. When Ford came out with the HUEI injection system they were having terrible problems with fuel quality and that adding Stanadyne's treatment cleared most of it up. They said that when Power Service originally came out that it had a high amount of alcohol in it but they were not sure about the current formulation.
