Does any one use Stanadine or Power Service's fuel additives? In my PSD I would use the PS diesel kleen +cetane boost with every tank. I used it more for the Cetane than cleaning the injectors. As I have almost a gallon of it left, I'd like to use it in my new truck.

Stanadine

Phloop,

I just ordered some Stanadine. I should be receiving it in the next few days. I have heard good things about it.

Did you notice any difference in your other truck when you ran it?

I use the power service, have only used it for one tank... I gues it's OK to use. My dealer says not to use any additives but the fuel in Calif is horrible. I can't see where it would hurt. Valvoline makes a good product that is endorsed by cummins, they just don't carry it here locally. Calling the 800 # on the bottle of the "Gas" version has not helped. Nobody will return the call/.

I have used the PS diesel kleen +cetane boost for the last 5 tanks, got it at Wal Mart. It does not seem to have made any difference in mileage or smoothness of the motor, but I figure it can't hurt. I am using it at the strength were it boost the cetane 3 points.

Stanadyne

I have used stanadyne, performance formula in my truck since new. I have 8,000 trouble free miles so far. Great product IMHO. coobie:D :D

PS makes a "fuel supplement" and the "Diesel Kleen" version - both the same price locally at Walmart - I asked via Email what the difference was between the 2 formulas, and Power Service reps said the Diesel Kleen stuff was better for lubricity - and the Supplement was better in cold climates for anti-jelling.

I *always* add the Diesel Kleen to my fuel, without fail! Can't claim any noticeable running difference, but mostly interested in the lubricity for the injection pump...

I never used those additives in any ride gas or diesel, except for using that engine oil honey in a totaly worn out engine to reduce smoke, what was the name a that crap? I'd never use it in a good motor, or any other additive. As usual, IMHO. Many rides, no problems from fuel on any of them. Let me do a search for that terrible stuff... . OH YA, STP, lolol.

Thanks for the imput, it looks like I'll start using the PS additive on the next tank. I do have both of the PS additives and switched between them in the spring and then in the fall on my stroke so I guess I'll do the same on the Dodge.

WE cary the Stanadyne. It has the following specs:

OEM Approvals - approved by many OEM's, including GM, Ford, Deere & Navistar. Meets Cummins L10 Superior Deposit Test for cleanliness.

I run it in my truck and it does quiet it down some. I also get about 1/2 MPG more when I use it.

At May Maddness there was an Executive Engineer ( Dennis Hurst) from Cunnins there talking about the 2004. 5 engine and some one brought up the question " Was it OK to use a fuel additive". His reply was " He doesn't recommend using it" Just thought I would pass it along to you guy's

Anyone have any clue why this guy "doesn't recommend" any additives?

I've begun researching fuel additives, in particular the offerings from Stanadyne. It's interesting to note that Cummins is not among the companies that have sent endorsements/approvals to Stanadyne for their additives (according to Stanadyne's website).

Additives

Ryan does'nt Cummins offer there own brand of fuel additive. That might be why their not endorsing any others. I don't know! I also noticed that on the Standyne website. Recently I tried one treatment of Power Service, may use it eventually, for the convience factor more than anything and its cheap. I have not decided yet. We are suspose to get the ULSD at work here any time, so I asked our fuel coordinator if he though we would need a additive for the low sulpher content an he said no, it meets our specs according to there data. Then he laughed a bit, an said now that I told you that something will probaly fail. So I guess, I'll see first hand if it's going to effect any of our equipment. I'll keep tabs with the shop on this one.

Fuel additive

Hey Ryan b, Add some of that JP4 you have been hording in the Garage that you drained out of that Westinghouse Engine a while back?? Ha Doc

I used PS Diesel clean for a couple of tanks and noticed no difference - good or bad. I tried Howes Meaner Kleaner for 2 fillups and my #1 injector started knocking like crazy. Replaced the injector, put the Meaner Kleaner in another tank, and it started knocking again - not as bad, but still very noticeable. Decided I'd better not use the Howes any more. I've run 3 tanks with no additive since then and the knock has persisted. Service manager says the only additive his department endorses is Stanadyne Blue. I filled up today and put in the Stanadyne and I immediately noticed my engine was running much quieter - no more knocking. I think I'll stick with it. I'm not bashing Howes. There are many variables involved here and I've heard and read very good things about their products. Just letting ya'll know what I've observed in my truck.

Your right, Cummins DOES NOT recomend the use of additives (other than an anti-gel for cold climates as needed) and yes they do make a "lubricity injector cleaner" Think that is the name, comes with a red label on the bottle, kind of pricey and available at Cummins dealers.

I have used Stanadyne perfomance formula in the past on my '98 with NO PROBLEMS, but if I decide to use some, I will probably go with the Cummins lubricity stuff. As high tech as these motors are, I DO NOT want to do anything which could void the warranty. Having said that, who knows if DC would try to blame a problem on an aftermarket additive?
