Hi I have been adding about a quart of non detergent engine oil (30 weight) to each tank of fuel to add lubricity to my fuel. Is this bad??? I mean oil is oil right? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

-Thanks, Travis

Some big rigs will dump their used engine oil automatically into the fuel to be burned by the engine. If it works for them, a quart of clean 30 weight wouldn't likely hurt your CTD. Might be a bit smokey, though!

If all you're adding is a quart for lubricity, consider brewing small quantities of biodiesel and adding it for the same reason. A gallon or two in your tank will do wonders for your lubricity.

Just a thought,

-Jay

If you're buying oil just to mix with your fuel, I'd suggest an ashless 2-cycle engine oil instead. This oil is formulated to be burned in combustion while leaving minimal deposits behind in the combustion zone.

Never tried running oil with the fuel, I just get bottles of that Power Service "Diesel Kleen" from Wal-mart @ $6 a bottle and get about 4 tanks to one bottle. Stuff works great, especially with this new ultra-low sulfur diesel being a much "drier" diesel than the previous stuff. Stanadyne additive works great as well.
