I agree with you Joe. I did the seafoam additive to the fuel tank only (two 16 oz cans)my slight ticking noise is now gone. I use the primrose 405(summer)-409(winter) and stanadyne PF with great results. coobieBuffalo said:TSchwab,
You're right! That was a great debate. I learned a lot. Both sides had convincing arguments, as I recall but, no one had, the undeniably BEST, final answer.
I decided that since I never had a water-in-fuel issue in 25 years of owning diesels that emulsifiers or demulsifiers would be called to handle, I'd worry more about the lubricity issue with the HPCR fuel delivery systems.
My final decision was to go with Primrose 405. It raises Cetane rating, gives quicker ignition, cleans injectors, lubricates pump, lowers starting temps. , & is supposed to reduce misfiring.
It is supposed to have a higher concentration of additives, in it, consequently, 12 oz. treats 187 gals. of fuel. Most of the other additives don't treat anywhere near that ratio. So, Primrose is cheaper to use.
Primrose also cleared up my "injector knocking" issue. DC sure didn't!!!
Since i've started using Primrose, I've started adding MMO (Marvel Mystery Oil) at a 4 oz. to 10 gal. recommended ratio. This is just to compliment the Primrose & add an extra layer of protection.
Last week, I added a bottle of Sea Foam to the fuel filter bowl, which, is supposed to work very well at cleaning carbon off injector tips. It seems to have smoothed out the lower rpm. running of the engine. I'm glad I did it.
I did this fuel treatment plan in the reverse order of what would probably be most efficient but, I did it in the order of when I learned of these products.
If I had an injector knocking issue, I'd do the Sea Foam first, & follow it up with the fuel additives as a maintainance program.

Joe,I run the stanadyne PF and primrose seperate. I usally throw in some MMO also. Jerome is just south of Jackson MI,hillsdale county. coobieBuffalo said:Hi Coobie,
I noticed you are running Primrose 405/409 & Stanadyne PF. Do you run one of the Primrose products along/together with the Stanadyne PF?
The reason I ask is that, if I'm not mistaken, they both do the same thing & it might be a bit of "overkill" & expensive.
I've added MMO together with the Primrose 405 but, MMO is not all that expensive. However, this might just be "overkill" on my part, also.
Just thought I'd mention this as it might save you a few bucks that you could spend on other "bombs" for your truck.
By the way, where is Jerome, MI? I'm originally from Redford Twsp. , MI. (N/W suburb of Detroit. ). I moved to AZ in 1976.
Thanks for your reply.

Yes they are. I have been doing some testing between the two. I bought my primrose from these folks AV Lubricants Ph # 614-492-200 they are located in groveport Ohio. coobietschwab said:Coobie, wouldn't Primrose (an emulsifier I think) contradict the Stanadyne (a demulsifier)?
Where is the best place to purchase Primrose?
